Procedures at Kareena

Most consultations, biopsies and single-tooth procedures are done under local anaesthetic in our Miranda rooms. We book surgery at Kareena when a general anaesthetic or a hospital setting is the better option, for example:

• Wisdom teeth removal, including several teeth at once and coronectomy
• Dental implants and bone grafting
• Exposure of impacted teeth for orthodontic treatment
• Removal of jaw cysts and larger lesions

Whether you need hospital or rooms is decided with you at your consultation.

Your day of surgery

• Before: complete the Kareena online admission form once your surgery is booked. The hospital will contact you with your admission time and fasting instructions. Follow these exactly.
• On the day: arrive at Kareena at the time the hospital gives you. You will meet the anaesthetist before surgery.
• Going home: most patients go home the same day. You need an adult to collect you and stay with you overnight after a general anaesthetic.
• Afterwards: we see you for your review at Miranda, and send a report to your dentist.

Fees

Hospital surgery involves three separate fees: the surgeon, the anaesthetist (typically $500 to $900) and the hospital. With private hospital cover, the hospital fee is usually just your policy excess; without cover, the Kareena hospital fee is $2,650. See About our Fees (PDF).
